Organizing When You’re Short on Time or Energy
Let’s be honest: most of us aren’t tackling a full closet overhaul on a Wednesday evening. Life is busy, and whether you’re juggling work, family, ADHD, or just the normal hustle of everyday life, organizing often falls to the bottom of the list.
But here’s the truth: you don’t need a whole day or endless motivation to make progress. At Simplify Life, we believe in realistic organizing that fits into real lives. That means making it easier to start, easier to finish, and easier to maintain.
The 5-Minute Fix
You’d be amazed at what 5 minutes can do. Set a timer and pick one small area: a single drawer, one shelf, the pile of shoes by the door. Sort quickly, toss what’s broken or unused, and group like with like. Done. It’s a win, and it counts.
Use the "One-Touch Rule"
If something’s in your hand, decide what to do with it right away. Put it where it belongs, toss it, or donate it. Avoid letting things pile up by choosing now instead of later.
Create Drop Zones
If you’re always tossing your keys, mail, or bag on the nearest surface, turn that surface into a purposeful drop zone. Add a small tray, basket, or hook so it looks intentional—and stays tidy.
Don’t Organize Alone
Accountability helps. Enlist a friend, a family member, or a pro (hi, that’s us!). Sometimes talking through where things should go or why you’re keeping them makes all the difference.
Celebrate Small Wins
Organizing isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. Every cleared corner, sorted drawer, or labeled bin is a step toward a calmer, easier-to-manage home. Celebrate that.
Need help starting small? We’re here to make it easier. Whether it's a closet, kitchen, or just your chaotic junk drawer, Simplify Life has your back—no matter how much time or energy you have.
